The future mission of public protection and disaster relief communications

23 September 2022

Paul Steinberg explores the implications and evolutionary progression for incumbent PPDR TETRA network operators of this shifting technology landscape and future public safety use cases.

The public safety experience will increasingly be software-defined and to a large extent be driven by virtualisation, open architectures, multi-networking and artificial intelligence.

Growing demand for bandwidth-intensive services such as video streaming and situational awareness applications in PPDR operations will challenge traditional radio network economics, and drive a shift towards more flexible, service-based consumption models and the adoption of 3GPP MCX services over 5G and 6G as well as cloud.

Paul Steinberg, Senior Vice President of Technology at Motorola Solutions, explores the implications and evolutionary progression for incumbent PPDR TETRA network operators of this shifting technology landscape and future public safety use cases.
