Zurich Airport is one of the most important hubs in Europe. It is the largest international airport in Switzerland and the principal hub of Swiss International Air Lines. It serves Zurich and, with its surface transport links, much of the rest of the country.

Historically Zurich Airport has used an old analogue trunked radio system and subsequently a Tetrapol system for radio coverage of flight handling, airlines and other users (companies) at the airport. They wanted to replace this with a new digital radio system and TETRA was deemed to be the best solution.
